BMAA Medal Of Honour Winners

2018 Gerry Breen

Gerry may no longer be a BMAA member having been diagnosed with a serious illness some time ago. Despite that Gerry has given more to our sport than almost anyone else and can easily be considered the 'Godfather of Microlighting'. From his very early days of 'powered hangliding' in 1976, through the formation of the BMAA's predecessor in 1979 to his School in Portugal until 2015 Gerry has passionately promoted the sport demonstrating its challenge and safety, and steering it through the bureaucratic minefield of regulation. With numerous records, race victories and even James Bond film stunt flying Gerry is the consummate professional and has done much to ensure that not only is our sport safe, but it is seen to be safe.

 2017 nigel beale

Nigel has been at the forefront of microlight aviation since its inception.  He has provided unstinting support to the sport and wider industry by the provision of engines, aircraft and freely available technical advice.  Although in business, the continued development of the sport has remained core to his principles.  Recognition of Nigel's contribution to our global success is long over due.
