Radio Telephony

This course can be used as a credit in the BMAA wings scheme.

Introduction

Either whilst undertaking flight training, or maybe once you have completed your licence, undertaking ground schooling on Radio Telephony will open up many new possibilities.

It is important to know your MATZ penetrations from your Deconfliction services!  This two day course will prepare you for the theory and practical examinations in order to achieve your Flight Radio Telephony Operator's Licence (FRTOL).

Content / Overview

You will learn about the following topics on the two day course, which is separated into theoretical knowledge and practical training:

DAY ONE:

  • General procedures.

  • Phraseology theory: Aerodrome, Area, Radar, Approach, Emergency, Military & Miscellaneous. 

  • Legal aspects and responsibilities.

  • Types of services and how to use them.

  • CAP413 Radiotelephony Manual.

DAY TWO:

  • Methods and advice on using the radio.

  • Simulator practice.

  • Mock examination practice.

Practise Makes Perfect

The course covers both theory and practice, there will be ample opportunity to hone your freshly acquired knowledge and skills using simulation of various and realistic R/T exchange scenarios.

Who Should Attend?

The course is aimed at anyone who wishes to gain and exercise the privileges of the Flight Radio Telephony Operator's Licence (FRTOL).  You might be a student pilot part way through your training, a recently qualified pilot or maybe an experienced pilot that has never previously gained this qualification.

Centrally located at Halfpenny Green (Wolverhampton) Airport in the West Midlands, offering professional FRTOL and ROCC training services. Working closely with local flight training establishments and the on-site Air Traffic Services Unit. Two Two Fly - Rochester & Cambridge

The provider is an experienced flight instructor who runs his own flight school from two different locations, one in Cambridgeshire and the other on the Eastern outskirts of London. Sure to instill confidence in their students, which is important with this particular subject.

 

GS Aviation - Marlborough

The provider is a very active and well established flight school from their long time base of operations at Clench Common Airfield in Wiltshire. They have put together a number of exercises designed to cover all the scenarios a pilot is likely to face when flying in the local area or taking part in a fly out or cross country navigation. Located near Marlborough, just south of Swindon.

Notes: This course is purely ground schooling only. PowerPoint presentations, each participant receiving course notes and simulator training on the RANT computer system.  Examinations offered separately using 'in-house' CAA approved examiner and same system as used for training.
