Flying with operational limitations

If your NPPL contains operational limitations, you should be fully aware of what these constitute:

1. You cannot carry a passenger

2. You must not fly with a cloud base less than 1000 feet above ground level and you must not fly with less than 10 kilometres visibility

3. You must not fly further than 8 nautical miles from the point of take-off

Removing the passenger carriage limitation

The passenger carriage limitation is the only limitation you can remove without a full application, but it still requires a Microlight Flight Examiner to endorse this removal.

You must have logged a minimum 25 total Microlight hours (which can include certified training) and 10 hours as Pilot-in-Command (which can include certified training). You should take your logbook to a Microlight Flight Examiner, who will check and certify the passenger carriage limitation removal in your logbook. You must not carry any passenger until this logbook certification is entered.

Removing all other operational limitations

To remove the other operational limitations, you will need to make an application for removal of operational limitations to the BMAA. Details on documentation required can be found on the 102M checklist under 'Enclosures to be sent with application', remembering that navigation training must be certified by your instructor in your logbook. The relevant fee can be found on the BMAA's online shop in 'Pilot Licensing Fees'.
