HERE’S a conundrum for you: how can something be a disaster and a triumph at the same time?

The answer is if it’s this month’s photo competition; for the entries are so good that out of 15, I’ve had to mark four of them eight out of 10, since I couldn’t decide between them.

However, the good news is that the two other judges every month are deputy editor Sharon Cox and production editor Andrew Leatherbarrow, so let’s see if they’re any more decisive than I am.

You’ll find out in your next MF, and in any case, as problems go, struggling to decide which is the best photo because so many are so good is a problem any editor would be glad of, so keep them coming!

Copelands by Mike Medlock. “One of the Copeland Islands at the eastern end of Belfast Lough on a flight in my Airborne XT <br>from Newtownards,” said Mike. “In 1778 it was the site of a battle between the British and American Navies.”

Evening flight by Brett Drinkwater. “Overhead Arisaig, looking out to the Isles of Eigg and Rum on an evening<br> flight from Plockton to Glenforsa on the Isle of Mull,” said Brett, who flies a Skyranger out of Rossall Field in Lancashire.

First flight by Tam Carr. “Me and Sophy, my five-year-old granddaughter, in my Eurostar <br>for her first flight, from Balado to the VE Day fly-in at Fife,” said Tam.

Frith Farm by Graham Arturi. “A few us flew from Colemore to Firth Farm in Hampshire in a Quik, <br>Quantum and PeaBee for a barbeque, and C42 pilot Graham took this shot on our departure,” said Jeff Rooney.

Glenforsa by Sarah Curtis. “Cheshire Flyer <br>Ian Macbeth’s plane on Glenforsa at sunset,” said Sarah.

Perranporth by Geoff Hall. Geoff on final over the cliffs at Perranporth on a few days away with flying buddy Paul Brooker, taking in <br>Over Farm, Bolt Head, Salcombe and Sandown for some abuse from Dan Subhani and a trip to Shanklin.

PFL by Mike Calvert. “A revalidation flight with Gordon Douglas, and he snuck in an engine failure <br>on climbout. A really great hour of instruction,” said Mike.

Popham by Adam Bedborough. A glorious lineup of fabulous <br>flying machines by Adam at the annual BMAA bash.

Skegness by Dave Dance. “Departing from Skegness in my Savannah VG and <br>returning to Calverton with Andy Thomas,” said Dave.

Spirit by Justin Parsons. “My friend Chris Hopkins in his Renegade Spirit just after takeoff <br>from Croft Farm after a club fly-in,” said Justin.
