WELL, blow us down with a wet kipper, but what a photo comp this month! The pot of 25 entries was the second highest ever – with so many crackers among them, the sound that you heard if you were walking past MF Global HQ at midnight on your way home from the Frog & Ferret was us scratching our heads trying to pick a winner. You’ll find the answer in the October MF.

Greenore Lighthouse, by Ethan Sherry. Greenore, the 11m-high lighthouse built in Carlingford Lough in 1830, by Ethan in a C42 out of Kernan airfield.

Blue and green, by Adam Bedborough. “Blue skies and a nice long grass strip at Ringstead airfield after a short hop from Sywell in Flylight’s Swift 3,” said Adam.

Better red than dead, by Mike Morris. MF advertising supremo Mike Morris in his trademark red overalls, killing time while his Eurostar gathers itself for its next flight.

And… relax, by Neil Douglas. “My mate Dave Stride in the front of my QuikR on the way into Beverley. His first time flying a plane,” said Neil.

All worthwhile, by Matt Gayton. Matt on a local flight from Clench Common in Wiltshire in a EuroFox. “A few miles from the airfield, the clouds parted, the sun broke through and all was brilliant,” said Matt.

A perfect evening, by Clive Mason. “After a few days of silly high winds, a gap appeared in the forecast for the evening, and I didn’t need asking twice,” said Clive.

Old Man of Hoy, by Geoff Martin. “Flying around in the Orkneys in my Pipistrel Alpha, I found something older than the editor,” said Geoff, the cheeky bugger.

Oban, by William McMinn. William and Jackie McCluskey on final for Oban to collect a friend’s Skyranger.

Manston, by Geoff Hall. Geoff approaching the massive disused runway at ex-RAF Manston, now relegated to an emergency lorry park.

Loose formation, by Dave Buggins. “Ray Wilkinson in his C42 and me in my EuroFox took a trip to Felthorpe and Weybourne, and did a bit of loose formation flying on the way home,” said Dave.

Lawn envy, by Diane Wright. “This is Charterhouse School in Godalming. I bet whoever cuts those lawns with such accuracy would be a good navigator!” said Diane’s pilot and husband, Les.

“A solar farm north of Sevilla on a recent trip to La Axarquia in southern Spain, to permit Andy Hodder’s Skyranger,” said BMAA Inspector Andy Roberts.

Home safe, by Paul Bass. Paul safely down at his home airfield, a farm strip in Northamptonshire, after a glorious evening flight.

Holy Island, by Mike Calvert. “Just five days after getting my licence, here I am with my wife Sharon as my first passenger, approaching Holy Island,” said Mike.

Tropical Scotland, by Ross Mitchell. “You might think this was over tropical islands with the beaches and beautiful blue water, but it was actually in a C42 over Loch Lomond,” said Ross.

The editor, dreaming again, by Adrian Whitmarsh. “MF Editor wins lottery and snaps up new 600kg supership,” said Adrian of this shot of Geoff Hill trying out the Vixxen.

Summer evening, by Tim Jerry. “No better way to enjoy a summer evening,” said Tim, who was heading towards Mersea Island on the Essex coast with fellow Quik pilot Sam Beardsell before landing back at their home airfield of Great Oakley.

River Blythe, by Fraser Simpson. “This is the River Blythe, aka Southwold Harbour, making its way towards Blythburgh and beyond as I began my return home to Sandy,” said Quik pilot Fraser.

Sea, sun and sky, by Lisa Sloan. Lisa over the Irish Sea in a C42 from Kernan Aviation in Northern Ireland on her way home from Hawarden and Sywell.

Rainbow’s end, by Robbie Buxton. “My Eurostar at the end of the rainbow on our farm strip at Kimberley in Norfolk, taken recently. I’m a flying farmer!” said Robbie.

Plockton, by John Mundy. John over the scenic Scottish airfield in his Skyranger Nynja during Fly-UK on the way to Easter. “The airfield, not the season,” he said helpfully. We like John.

Peak District, by Phil Strangward. Thermic Phil in the the Air Création Kiss over Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud in Derbyshire, before heading back to Palmer Moor for tea and medals.

On reflection, by Lee McIlwaine. Dave Sykes’ impressively shiny headgear in his Quik at Troutflex 2021, in which legends and lesser mortals alike gathered to plan a flexwing renaissance.
