ROTAX ENGINE THEFTS - POLICE OPERATION OPAL

There have been several thefts of microlight Rotax engines in the recent past - and West Mercia Police have set up a dedicated operation to investigate. Operation Opal works on a national and international level to collate information helpful to their investigation. Opal does not investigate the crimes locally; instead this is the responsibility of the local police service. If you are the victim of a Rotax engine theft, you will also need to contact your local police.

If you have information you believe may be useful to Opal we want to know. To assist with collection of data the BMAA has set up a reporting form for anyone to use to report thefts, or just suspicions, which we will pass on to Operation Opal. This link will take you to the reporting form.

It is thought likely that the thieves are technically aware. It is likely that they are reading public forums and using information gained to track down target aircraft. Members are advised to think carefully about what information they may put into the public domain.
