Popham airfield housing development

Popham airfield is being considered as a site for 3000 new houses as part of the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council's strategic plan review.

Councillor Andy Konieczko, cabinet member for Strategic Planning and Infrastructure, stated:

We’re currently in the process of drafting a new Local Plan for Basingstoke & Deane.  We’ve been told by the government that we need to build around 850 new homes each year and have to find locations around the area that can accommodate all of this extra housing.  Popham Airfield is one of the sites that has been suggested to us.

We’re planning to hold a public consultation on our Local Plan – including all of the proposed sites - from late January to early March.  Please do look out for details of that and then take a few minutes to have your say – we’re keen for as many people as possible to let us know their views.

The Council will meet on Tuesday 9 January to consider including Popham Airfield in the local plan, after which the Council will be obliged to consult and gather feedback. The General Aviation community will be responding and the GAAC will engage their significant planning expertise to lobby and remind the Council of the Government's stated aim to promote aviation and encourage airfields.
