BMAA Technical Office Job Vacancy: Design Approval Engineer (Aircraft)
The British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA) has a growing membership of 3900 who have a keen interest in flying microlight and light aircraft. The Association is run for the membership by the full time staff at offices in Deddington, Oxfordshire. The BMAA has A8-26(S1) Sporting Approvals from the Civil Aviation Authority.
The Role of the BMAA Technical Office is to assess and approve new Microlight and Light Aircraft types upto 750kg and their variants, and also to approve aircraft modifications and repairs. In addition to individual approvals the Technical Office also provides support for the continued airworthiness of over 1800 aircraft.
We are now looking to expand our engineering staff and have a vacancy for a Design Approval Engineer. Working as part of the team the prime responsibilities will include:
- Assessing Compliance with Design Requirements
- Flight Load and Stress Analysis
- Flight Test Analysis
- Documentation Compliance
- Final Approval of Designs, Modifications and Repairs.
This broad role is an opportunity – and requires one – to become familiar with, and competent in, all aspects of Microlight/light aircraft initial airworthiness.
The successful applicant’s qualifications will ideally include an Honours Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, although applications are also welcome from people with an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering. The applicant should be versed in design, aerodynamics, structures, loads and stressing, stability and control. All applicants must have a technical interest in, and enthusiasm for, light aviation.

Salary is negotiable and will depend on skills and experience. Benefits include a non-contributory pension. Holiday entitlement is 28 days per year.
