The British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA) is a members’ association for pilots and owners of Microlight aircraft and related very light aeroplanes.  The BMAA’s primary aims are to support its membership, and promote and develop the sport of Microlight flying.

The Chief Technical Officer reports to the Chief Executive and heads the BMAA’s Technical Office, which performs the BMAA’s airworthiness function under a UK CAA BCAR A8-26 approval.  In addition to the Chief Technical Officer, the Technical Office is staffed by the Chief Inspector, a design approval engineer, and technical admin support.  The Chief Technical Officer is responsible for approval of new aircraft designs, approval of modifications and repairs, and design support for the continued airworthiness of the BMAA fleet.

The applicant should be a degree-qualified aeronautical engineer, with experience in the design and/or certification of Microlight or light aircraft, preferably as a CAA approved design signatory.  A thorough knowledge is required of light aircraft aerodynamics, structures, loads and stressing, stability and control, powerplants and other systems.

A PPL and experience of aircraft ownership is a distinct advantage.

Salary is negotiable and will depend on skills and experience. Benefits include a non-contributory pension. Holiday entitlement is 28 days per year.
