Beware Gliding Sites with a Winch

We are reminded by the British Gliding Association (BGA) of the danger of flying through active gliding sites where a winch launch is used. At some sites the cable can be carried to 3000 feet above the aerodrome level. Colliding with either a glider during launch, or the almost invisible cable will be catastrophic to both the glider and the passing aircraft.

The BGA publish a warning poster which you can download here. Why not print one out for your hangar?

When planning a flight always plan to avoid gliding sites, or make sure that you can communicate with the site to fly safely through. Don't take chances. The image below shows just how many instances there have been in the past 18 months, 26 of which had the potential for collision.
