Job Opportunities at the BMAA

Airworthiness Engineer

1st August 2008. The British Microlight Aircraft Association has delegated responsibility from the UK CAA for most airworthiness functions related to the microlight aeroplanes in the United Kingdom; this fleet comprises about 3,400 aircraft of 140 types. This airworthiness function is centred at the BMAA’s headquarters at Deddington, near Banbury, in Oxfordshire. Workload is increasing steadily with the size of the UK microlight fleet and expanded areas of responsibility.

This post will entail close involvement with every aspect of aircraft design, and both engineering and operations. It will be both demanding and rewarding for an engineer who has broad skills and interests within aeronautics. Dealing with whole aircraft rather than individual systems provides a unique engineering experience. The successful candidate will join a small but dynamic team, and can expect a significant amount of responsibility over a broad and varied workload.

Essential Requirements: Applicants should be technically qualified to HNC or BEng level in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering. A good standard of IT literacy is required. Applicants need not have extensive experience in light aviation but an Inquisitive mind and attention to detail are essential.

Desirable Attributes: Experience of aircraft design, structural stress analysis and/or certification. A Private Pilot’s Licence with flying experience in light or microlight aircraft.

Salary will be negotiable based on qualifications and experience. 5% of Salary will be paid into an individual or stakeholder pension scheme. 28 days paid holiday is allowed per annum; there is a requirement for some weekend work with time off in lieu.
